Chrysler Building

During the 1930s, the Bank of Manhattan and Walter Chrysler were in an unspoken competition to build the world’s tallest building. Chrysler won the battle by secretly building the spire in the tower and attaching it to the top of his building a week after the Bank of Manhattan was completed.

At the time Otis installed the building’s 33 elevators, the Chrysler Building was the largest building in the world.

The dazzling Art Deco elevator doors feature rare wood marquetry.
